Add some number sense to your social studies/science strands when presenting a Pets Theme with these dual (or triple) purpose centers. As you introduce the centers in a small teaching group, some great oral language discussions will emerge.
This pack includes four numbers/10-frames matching activities, 1-20, each focusing on a different pet need:
• Pets need food. Match dogs to filled dog bowls.
• Pets need exercise. Match cats to balls of yarn.
• Pets need a safe place to live. Match goldfish to fishbowls.
• Pets need love and kindness. Match rabbits with girl holding a rabbit.
Print on cardstock, cut out cards, and laminate for longer use. Large cards for small hands. The main number sense focus is matching numerals with the 10-frames 1-20, and each card also includes the written number name.
The cards can also be used to create sequences of only number cards, or only 10-frame cards. They can be used in pocket charts, as flashcards, on tables, and on floors. Differentiate by offering more or less number/10-frame pairs.
