Big, gray elephant,
With a long trunk for a nose. He (she) uses it to pick up food, But look out, that nose is a HOSE! Pshhhhhhhhhh!! The elephant goes like this and that, He’s terribly big and he’s terribly fat! He has no fingers, and he has no toes, But goodness gracious, What a nose! (Action chant) Elephoe, elephee, elephoo, Elephant tell me what to do! Should I climb up a tree and have a cup of tea? No. Should I swim in the creek and catch a fish with my beak? No. Should I scamper on the floor like a mouse runs to the door? No. Should I fly in the sky and wave bye bye? No. Should I stomp through the grass and swing my trunk like this? Yes! (“Elephants” stomp around the room, swinging trunks and trumpeting). Tune: Did You ever see a Lassie? If I was an elephant, and elephant, an elephant, Yes, if I was an elephant I would eat grass and leaves.. And branches and berries, And bark and wild cherries Oh if I was an elephant I would eat my veg-gies! (Action game. Tuck a strip of crepe paper in the back of each child’s waistband. As each child is called, they grab the other end of the paper strip to make a long line of walking, swaying elephants) One elephant went out to play On a spider web one day He (she) had such enormous fun He (she) invited another elephant to come. Come on (name). A wrinkly gray elephant I went to see Had four legs and was bigger than me. He had two ears that were big and round, And one long nose that made a sound. EEEEEEEEEEEEE Right foot, left foot, see me go, I am gray and big and slow. I come walking down the street, With my trunk and four big feet. The elephant has a great big trunk That goes swinging to and fro And he has tiny, tiny eyes That show him where to go. His great big ears go flopping around While his great big feet go STOMP on the ground. Elephant, elephant, walking through the trees Elephant, elephant, watch out for bees! If you put your trunk in that hive for the honey, Something will happen and it won’t be funny! The bees will see you and chase you away “Go away Mr. Elephant! No honey for you today!” Tune: Down by the Station Out on the savanna, early in the morning, See all the elephants walking in a row. Walking through the yellow grass to the stand of trees, It’s time to eat breakfast – bark and leaves. I asked my mother for fifty cents, To see the elephant jump the fence, He jumped so high, He reached the sky, And didn’t come back ‘til the Fourth of July! You put your elephant ears in. You put your elephant ears out. You put your elephant ears in, And you shake them all about. You do the elephant pokey, and you stomp yourself around. That’s what it’s all about! …elephant trunk… …elephant foot… …whole self… |
