Space

Songs about space

Here is a collection of the words for some songs and rhymes that co-ordinate with the popular early childhood theme "Space", and can be used when planning activities and curriculum for young children.

Sung to: "One little, Two little, Three little Indians"
One little two little three little planets
Four little five little six little planets
Seven little eight little nine little planets
Orbiting the sun.
Mercury Venus and the Earth
Mars Jupiter and Saturn
Uranus Neptune and Pluto
Orbiting the sun.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star, I know what you really are:
Giant ball of glowing gas, one of billions in a mass!
Twinkle, twinkle, little star, oh, how big you really are!
Twinkle, twinkle, giant star, larger than the Earth by far!
Since your distance is a lot, you look like a tiny dot.
Twinkle, twinkle, giant star, very bright, yet very far!
Stars are twinkling, every one, some are bigger than the sun!
Just a twinkle in the sky, just because you’re oh, so high!
Twinkle, twinkle, little star, oh how big you really are.

The tiny stars you see at night
Are like our sun, so warm and bright
But far away, they look so small
They barely give us light at all.

Sung to: "Where have you been Billy Boy?"

Tell me, where have you been, astronaut, astronaut?
Tell me, where have you been in your rocket?
I have landed on the moon, and I may return there soon
With a space station that will help me dock it!
Tell me, what did you do, astronaut, astronaut?
Tell me, what did you do in your rocket?
I took pictures of the stars
And the craters found on Mars,
And I brought home some moon rocks In my pocket!
Put on your spacesuit. We're going to the Moon.
 Climb aboard your rocket ship.
We're going to blast off soon.
Put on your helmet.
Strap yourself in tight.

Check your controls and instruments.
Get ready for the flight.
Time for your journey.
The countdown has begun. Here we go, Get ready, Get set!

5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Blast off!

(If you're happy and you know it)
Outer space is where I really like to go,
I ride inside a spaceship, don't you know?
I like to travel near the stars,
Wave to Jupiter and Mars,
Outer space is where I really like to go.

Zoom, zoom, zoom
I'm going to the moon
If you want to take the trip,
Climb aboard my rocket ship
(pretend to climb imaginary ladder)
Zoom, zoom, zoom
I'm going to the moon!

Bend and stretch, reach for the stars
There goes Jupiter, here comes Mars
Bend and stretch and reach for the sky
Stand on tip-e-toe, oh! so high!
