This is a flexible set of activities that teachers can use to get the group moving, with a spring theme. The materials included can be used differently for several age groups.
Great to use with preschoolers every day, to get the wiggles out and just have fun. Use with older children on rainy days indoors, and sunny days outside. After several times using the picture cards, use just the labels for sight word practice. Print on cardstock for best use.

Included:
- A set of 20 cards in color, with labels.
- A set of the same 20 cards in b/w, with labels.
- A set of cards with just the labels, in large font.
- A page of 4 sentence strips, with the words “I can ___”. There is a space to place, or cut and paste, a small action picture after the words “I can” and the children can try to read the completed “I can" sentence.
- Small b/w pictures of all the action cards, to cut and paste.
- A recording page that can be used in a “Read the Room” activity.
Ways to use:
- In the basic game/activity, the teacher holds up a card and the children perform the action on the card. Go over the cards with them first, to be sure they recognize the activity pictured. Use a few cards, or all of them. Relate them to some things people might do in spring.
- Use the bw cards to save on colored ink. Sets of the b/w cards can be printed for each child to make tiny booklets to “read” (staple in the corner or on the left side), or in any activity you can think of.
- Print 2 sets of the cards to make a matching or memory game.
- Use the cards with just labels for older children to match with the picture cards, and to practice sight reading words.
- Use the “I can” sentence strips for a cut and paste activity. The children can cut the strips or leave the page intact. They can choose whichever action pictures they prefer, to paste on the strip and finish the sentence. They can make as many as they want and staple the strips together on the left side to make a booklet to “read” at home.
- Read the Room activity: Tape some or all the action cards around the room on the wall. Give each child a recording page on a clipboard. As they walk around and find each card on the wall, they color over the picture on their recording page. They don’t need to read any words, just recognize the pictures.
- Play Charades – place cards face down. Child picks up a card (without the rest of the group seeing it) and acts out the picture on the cards. Others must guess the action.
