This is a set of 14 pairs of picture cards (in 4 formats), 2 follow-up worksheets, and an emergent reader, exploring the concept and vocabulary of “opposite” for early learners.
Click on the PREVIEW photo and hover over it for a larger view of the pages.
Center/Small Group: 14 pairs of cards representing things that are familiar to the children and are usually considered “opposite”. There is one set in color without labels, one set in color with labels, one set in b/w without labels, and one set in b/w with labels. Print on cardstock and laminate if desired. I have included 2 opposite concepts for “short” – tall, and long.
Worksheets: The children cut and paste b/w pictures, similar to those in the center, into opposite pairs, on each worksheet.
Emergent reader: Cut out the pages, stack them and staple on the left side.
Other activities: The picture cards are big enough to use as flash cards in a small group session, discussing the concepts and vocabulary of “opposite”. Hold up 2 of the cards, name them, and say : “These things are opposite – true or false?” Children can color their own set of the b/w cards and take them home.
