The teaching theme focus for this packet is KWANZAA. Since this is a unit for 4,5 and 6 year old children, I have a given a "big picture" view of the traditions of Kwanzaa, and have not gone into the symbolism in detail. Please check the PREVIEW collage photo for an idea of the activities.

• Poster of a kinara, plus a coloring page
• Draw a present fo
r Kwanzaa - what do you think is in the box?
• Cut and paste candles in kinara - counting and color recognition
• Lotto/bingo game - matching and vocabulary
• Cut and paste symbols of Kwanzaa onto a traditional m’keka mat.
• Decorate and color a “Celebrating Kwanzaa” poster.
- Word/picture strips, plus header, to use for a vocabulary word wall or pocket chart
- Traditional African fabric patterns to use for collage work.
- Discuss and draw - Some African American families celebrate Kwanzaa. What do you celebrate at your house?

Pre-K Themes is a series of mini teaching topics that are focused towards preschool and Pre-K learners. Although the activities are written to cover one full day of activities and related games, centers and other printables, there are enough ideas to extend the theme longer if needed.
