This is a set of Winter-themed cards to use for subitizing activities, with a group or individual child. Print the cards on cardstock, and laminate for longest use.
Click on the preview photo and hover your mouse to see enlarged pages.
Hold up a card for 3 seconds, and children try to name the set by recognizing the pattern, without counting the items. Most people are able to learn to subitize up to 6 items – any higher than this, and the items are probably being counted. I have included sets from 0 to 10, to use as needed.
For experienced subitizers, show 2 cards together, and they can create addition number stories.
In this resource, I have included sets of these winter-themed items from 0-10, shown in various arrays and patterns.
• Snowflakes
• Winter hats
• Hot chocolate
• Penguins with scarves
• Mittens
• Dots
• 10-frames
• Tally marks
• Dice
• Counting fingers
Use these cards as flashcards, as a group activity, as a fill-in during transitions, in matching centers, memory games, for early finishers with a partner, for early intervention, and as an assessment.
