Create a scribble picture by using a marker or crayon to make circling loops all over the paper. Make a different pattern inside each loop, or just continue making colorful loops again and again. Use a HUGE piece of paper. Everyone do it together as a mural while listening to music.
An empty space picture. Teacher cuts a shaped hole in the middle of a piece of paper. Child uses the hole as a focus point, and creates a picture around it.
Experimenting with chalk. Wet chalk on dry paper, dry chalk on wet paper. Dip it into water mixed with sugar, or into buttermilk. Use the sides of the chalk and blend colors together.
Draw on sandpaper with various media, such as chalk, charcoal, cinnamon sticks.
Draw with markers on wet paper.
Tracing around objects – paper cups, cardboard shapes, toys, a child lying on paper on the floor.
