HALLOWEEN CANDY Color Sorting Center

$2.50
This is a Halloween themed color sorting activity for early preschool and toddlers. Children sort 36 pieces of candy (6 each of 6 colors) onto color-labeled candy buckets. The candies are various types, and various different shades of the colors. Red, green, yellow, blue, purple and orange.

I have included an unlabeled bucket so that several colors can be added to it. “Can you find a yellow candy and put it “in” the bucket?” I have also included b/w candies for the children to color, and a b/w bucket to make the activity more flexible. Write your own color names on these buckets.

If you would like to go wild with your colored ink, I have included a large orange bucket. You could print several of these and cut around the edges to make the buckets more life-like in the sorting activity. Perhaps they could be used to sort real wrapped candy?

Make a center or use for a small group learning activity. Print on cardstock for longer use.
The candies can also be used for counting, creating groups/sets, and collage art.

THANKSGIVING Introducing the History and Vocabulary to Preschoolers

$3.00

This is a set of activities to introduce the concept of the celebration of Thanksgiving to young children - older toddlers and preschoolers.

Included:
• Informational booklet in color. Read booklets to a small group, or individual child. Expand on the words appropriate to the developmental level of your group. Encourage questions, conversation and discussion.
• Informational booklet in b/w.
• Interactive cut and paste booklet activity. This is directed. Cut out the pictures for those not cutting yet.
• Stick puppets to re-tell the story.

I wanted to introduce Thanksgiving in a simple way to my toddler grandson, and could not find anything simple and engaging enough to capture his interest. So I created this resource. He was drawn in immediately, following the story and asking questions. I understand that this is not how the real history happened and evolved, but it presents enough of a positive framework on which to build later stories, questions and discoveries.

Build an Elf - Oral Language, Color Recognition and Creative Design Activity

$3.00
This is a fun and engaging all-in-one activity to celebrate the holiday season for preschool, pre-K and Kindergarten.

Group game and creative activity directions: This is just one way to use these great elf pieces – be creative. This activity is for a small group of young children.

Leave the elf bodies pages whole, and cut out the other pieces. Have one elf for each child, and enough other pieces to give choices with a few left over. Have the children sit in a circle on the floor, with the elf pages spread out in the middle.

Introduce the elves by their names. Each child chooses the one they want, taking turns saying “I would like _______” by name, or “I would like this elf”. (The elves names are Glitterpie, Gingerplum, Shinysparkles and Jinglesocks).

Then put the elf clothes in the center of the circle, and each child chooses “I would like a green and red tunic that has stripes”, “I would like black elf shoes” etc until everyone has the pieces they want. Encourage descriptive words, and help with different descriptive ideas.

Presents page: Use the presents to extend the activity – each child chooses a present for their elf.

Then they go to the table, and paste together their elf, clothes and presents.

4 coloring pages extension: Children choose the elf they want to decorate (with markers, crayons, collage materials etc.) and make up a name for their elf.

Christmas Presents Match Beginning Sounds Center - A Gift for Every Letter

$2.50
What's in the present? The letter on it gives you a clue. Children match each gift box to the special present that begins with that sound.

Cut out the cards with the letter labels, and the set of items to match with each letter present box, according to their beginning sounds. Go over the names of the items when demonstrating the center so the children will understand the pictures. Each picture is labeled with small print.

Click on the PREVIEW photo and hover over it to see all pages.

Set out just a few, or all, of the cards depending on educational level.

Use the activity also as a small group teaching tool.

Another way to play: Hide each item under the box cards - ask child to find a certain letter, lift it, and name the gift. Emphasize the initial sound.

Skills and concepts:
  • letter recognition
  • letter sounds
  • initial sounds of words
  • vocabulary
  • category of gifts

Note: I did use a xylophone for the letter Xx, against my better judgment. I didn't want to leave X out of the activity.

Subitizing Cards - Practice Instant Recognition of Number Groups 0-10 Christmas

$3.00
This is a set of Christmas-themed cards to use for subitizing activities, with a group or individual child. Print the cards on cardstock, and laminate for longest use.

Method:
Hold up a card for 3 seconds, and children try to name the set by recognizing the pattern, without counting the items. Most people are able to learn to subitize up to 6 items – any higher than this, and the items are probably being counted. I have included sets from 0 to 10, to use as needed.

For experienced subitizers, show 2 cards together, and they can create addition number stories.

IMPORTANT: Click on the preview photo and hover over it to see all pages.

In this resource, I have included sets of these Christmas themed items from 0-10, shown in various arrays and patterns:
  • Wreaths
  • Cupcakes
  • Trees
  • Stars
  • Ornaments
  • Dots
  • 10-frames
  • Tally marks
  • Dice
  • Counting fingers

Use these cards as:
  • flashcards,
  • a group activity
  • a fill-in during transitions
  • in matching centers
  • memory games
  • for early finishers with a partner,
  • for early intervention
  • as an assessment
